I am so happy to know the truth contained in Colossians 1:29, which says:
To this end, I labor, struggling with all
his energy, which so powerfully works in
me.
As we endeavor to do the good work to which we have been called, what a joy to know that we do not have to do it in our own strength.
I listened to a sermon today from Life Church where he was preaching from 2 Kings 3:16. The story is of kings who find themselves without enough water, and they ask the prophet Elisha for help. From God, through Elisha, they were told to dig ditches. They were instructed to get to work, trusting that God would come through with the water when they trusted Him and got to work. Therefore, it says:
God’s word: Dig ditches. 2 Kings 3:16
Where do I find myself needing to trust what God tells me to do?
John chapter 16 teaches:
7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
Without the Holy Spirit, sin would just seem like good business, best practice, and a way to indulge oneself. I am thankful that Jesus left Him here for us.
In Psalm 23, the text says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for the Lord is with me. The certainty is that there will be dark times, but the nonnegotiable is that the Lord will be there with you.
The Bible says that your heart is deceitful above all things. Jeremiah 17:9. Test what you are thinking. Does it align with what Jesus says is true about you? Does it match what you know to be true about Him?
Acknowledge the Lie – “No one wants to follow my leadership because I am incapable.”
Reframe the thought to what the Lord says about it. He says in your weakness, His strength shows up.
He reminds you that as you walk obediently in faith, He equips you for what he has called you to do.
Replace the Lie and Redirect to how you can live or act differently because of the reframed lie.
“Because the Lord equips me and walks with me, I can confidently lead regardless of how capable I feel. Regardless of what my negative self-talk says about me. I will listen to what the Lord says about me.”
